ROLP Celebrates 46th Year with Singpalataya Choral Fest

“Among the many signs and symbols used by the Church to celebrate its faith, music is of preeminent importance.” (Music in Catholic Worship, 1983) Indeed, as the Resurrection of Our Lord Parish (ROLP) celebrates its 46th anniversary, they will be holding a benefit concert aptly titled “Singpalataya,” a portmanteau of the words “sing” and “sampalataya”. Simply put, the concert is a celebration of faith through music.

The choral fest, scheduled on April 7, 2018 at 7:30 p.m. inside the church, features Kammerchor Manila, fresh from their stint at the 2018 Jeju International Choir Festival & Symposium in February where they performed alongside world renowned choirs from Japan, Italy, Poland, China, and Indonesia. Joining the international award-winning choir are Quorista, ROLP Voces Amoris, and Valiant Voices.

Since its founding in 1992 by Prof. Fidel Calalang, Kammerchor Manila has become one of the Philippines’ premier church choirs; having won several awards and recognition from many prestigious national and international choral competitions. Most recently, they were hailed as the Grand Prix winner at the 1st Leonardo Da Vinci International Choral Festival on top of being the category winner for Mixed Choir; Modern and Contemporary Music; and Popular, Folk, Gospel, Barbershop, Jazz and Modern Ensemble. In the past year, the group also won Gold Diploma and Second place in Sacred Music including the Audience Prize and Best Male Soloist in the said festival. In the same year, Kammerchor Manila was a finalist at the Grand Prix round of the 8th Musica Eterna Roma in Rome, Italy and awarded gold diplomas in Mixed Choir; Gospel and Spiritual; and Musica Sacra categories. The group subsequently went on to win 1st and 2nd place in the Habaneras and Polyphony respectively at the 63rd Certamen Internacional de Habaneras y Polifonia in Torrevieja, Spain. The choir is led by Anthony G. Villanueva and is based in Hearts of Jesus and Mary Parish, West Triangle, Quezon City.

Set to enthrall the audience is Quorista, a resident choir of Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish, Alabang Hills, Muntinlupa City. Under the baton of conductor and founder Ronnie Abarquez, the group was declared champion of SM Center Las Piñas’ Voices of Christmas in 2017. They were also 1st runner-up at the First Mandaluyong Caroling Competition. Most recently, the group appeared in the noontime program Showtime with Jed Madela.

The sweet sound of the young voices of ROLP Voces Amoris will surely inspire the crowd as they sing songs of love and praise. An ensemble of members coming from the various children’s and youth choirs of the parish, the group is under the guidance of music director Chet Tiongson and mentors Eduardo del Rosario Jr. and Bunso Gomez.

Leading the invocation is Veritas Catholic School’s Valiant Voices with choir masters Rey and Francis Estrada.
